The wonderful lakes of Trentino Alto Adige
Lake Garda
The largest lake in Italy is Lake Garda but also the most popular with an area of about 370 million square meters over an area of 51 km and 17 wide, with a depth of up to 346 meters. Known since ancient times for its characteristic Mediterranean climate which has given the possibility of forming the typical vegetation of the latitudes typical of other areas, an example is the olive tree, for which a special consortium was formed for its marketing, but also holm oak, cypress and many citrus fruits.
In fact, it is no coincidence that the waters of the lake froze only once in 1709. The lake in fact has a basin with different origins: glacial, tectonic and morainic barrier. At Lake Garda it is also possible to find only the ports present in Trentino such as Riva del Garda and Nago Torbole .
It is particularly known, among sports fans, for sailing and windsurfing thanks to the regularity with which the Ora blows daily, while for the lovers of sport climbing at Lake Garda it is possible to take advantage of many natural gyms with rocks at peak on the water.
Terlago lake
Among the most fruitful lake ecosystems in the whole of Trentino, Lake Terlago is located near the town that bears the same name, a few steps from Trento. An ecosystem particularly rich in vegetation and abundant species of fish, among the most upright in the whole of Trentino. It is a very large hilly lake with a small depth, located at 416 m above sea level.
The waters are characterized by a particular brown - olive color as a consequence of the multiple flora. Lake Terlago extends for 350 thousand square meters considered an ideal place by fishermen thanks to the presence of multiple fish species such as carp, native lake trout, pike, tench and many others. Remote testimonies lead to the late Paleolithic, more than ten thousand years before Christ.
Lake of Toblino
Among the most enchanting lakes in the whole of Trentino, thanks also to its castle , Lake Toblino is a small alpine lake at the bottom of the valley surrounded by a particularly rich and interesting reed bed. The whole area is of particular naturalistic, botanical and ethological interest, placed at 245 meters and is located towards the final part of the Valley of the lakes, not far from Trento and the towns of Calavino, Sarche, Pedergnone and Vezzano.
The castle of the same name greatly enhances the appearance of the lake, considered to be among the most beautiful bodies of water in the whole of Trentino. Thanks to the presence of the mountains and the moderate climate of Lake Garda, the growth of many plant varieties, including olive trees, is particularly favored. Numerous migratory birds and a large fish fauna stop at the surface of the lake. A particularly suggestive and romantic area not far from the lake of Santa Massenza.
Caldonazzo lake
Lake Caldonazzo , which extends for 5 km over 5.62 sq km of surface, is one of the largest lakes in the whole of Trentino. Originally, and until the nineteenth century, the shores of the lake bathed the city of Pergine , following the reclamation of the marshes, which extended along a very large area, it took on its current size.
Characterized by the presence of many beaches, the Caldonazzo lake is the only one in the whole of Trentino where it is possible to go water skiing. There are also four nautical clubs where it is also possible to row, windsurf and sail. From a faunal point of view, considering the strong anthropization, it is not unusual to find birds of prey, especially in the early afternoon. From June until September the lake is suitable for swimming thanks to the pleasant temperature of its waters which is between 20 and 24 degrees.
Cornisello lake
An enchanting place set among the most beautiful hills of the Brenta group, the Cornisello lakes , which are three hours' walk from Madonna di Campiglio, are located at the base of a large valley cirque surrounded by the peaks of Bon, Cima Giner, of Scarpacò, Cima d'Amola, Bocchetta d'Amola and from the top of Cornisello.
The waters of the lake are very deep characterized by a milky aspect as a consequence of the presence of streams that come from the peaks that overlook it. The minor lake is less deep characterized by clear and transparent waters.
It is possible to make a series of excursions to head towards other basins in the valley, such as the Vedretta lake located at 2600 meters, which can be reached via the path 239 where it is possible to admire the entire Brenta group, but also the lake. Black located at 2233 meters, along the path 216.
San Giuliano and Garzonè lakes
Along paths full of blueberries and rhododendrons it is possible to reach the suggestive glacial basin which houses the lakes of San Giuliano and Garzonè . The lakes are located at about 1940 meters, between the peaks of Spadalone, Corno Alto, the Costaccia and the Cinglia, characterized by blue waters and circumscribed by an extensive pine forest, giving you a majestic view over the Val di Genova.
It is possible to reach the lakes along path 221, via a previous car ride up to Pozza delle Vacche at 1485 meters. Once you have passed the San Giuliano hut, along a path particularly rich in shrub vegetation, with a characteristic presence of bilberry, rhododendron and red, you reach the wonderful glacial basin that guards the two lakes one next to the other. The whole area is covered with meadows and detrital areas of glacial moraine.
Tenno lake
Characterized by a particular round geomorphology, Lake Tenno is the site of a biotope, consisting of an area of 2.5 sq km, it is the sixth in the whole of Trentino by extension and is also suitable for swimming. Surrounded by a vast wooded area and thanks to its stretch of water from view to an exquisitely romantic area.
It is characterized by a round shape derived from a huge landslide which probably occurred around 1100 from Mount Misone blocking the course of the Ri 'Sec river. The depth of Lake Tenno is very variable, it is approximately up to 160 meters. It consists of an area of more than 3000 square meters, inserted in a system of biotopes located in Trentino.
When the lake has a smaller depth, a second island emerges known as Isola dell'86, a number that indicates the date of the first appearance.
Lavarone lake
On the bottom of Lake Lavarone it is possible to admire the fossil remains of a previous fir forest. It is the result of the natural filling of a sinkhole with karst origins, consisting of a seabed that already at 17 meters presents the testimony of a fir forest. It is located at 1,079 meters and extends along 64,000 square meters of surface, a bathing area where it is possible to practice various sports thanks to the presence of transparent waters and the particular nature that surrounds it.
It is also possible to carry out a series of excursions, particularly interesting is the path that extends along the perimeter of the lake which will give you the opportunity to admire the wonderful landscape.
